I recently heard a quote by Harry Overstreet who wrote the book Influencing Human Behavior. He said, “Action springs from what we fundamentally desire.”
It got me thinking about what I fundamentally desire. Do I desire to sit on the couch all day distracted by social media and games? Do you ever notice how when you sit on the couch for long periods of time, you get an inkling for a snack or a drink? The rabbit hole is REAL! No, actually being distracted is the opposite of what I truly desire! I desire to be focused and spring into inspired action.
What about you, what do you fundamentally desire? Are they showing up as results in your life?
I learned from Brooke Castillo and other teachers that the results of my life are inextricably linked to my thoughts. So while I may desire to be focused, my thoughts are not leading me on that path. I wonder if you can relate to any of these thoughts that I’ve had to change recently.
“This is a time to hibernate and chill out, so I can sit on the couch for a while. It’s not like I have to be anywhere!”
“I have nothing to do because everything is closed.”
“Who knows when I’ll get back to normal so FORGET it.”
There is so much negativity swirling around these days that we have to be even more vigilant when it comes to protecting our mind and managing our thoughts. I decided to think differently about the current situation and I hope this inspires you to do the same.
This is not the time to sit around and be overwhelmed by our internal dialogue, this is the time to take inventory of your fundamental desires and align your thoughts to get the results you want. Take this time, when the world seems to be in flux (we cannot control the circumstances), and make decisions about your thoughts, feelings, and have a positive impact on the results of your life. Allow yourself to see what you are made of!
